Process: HOPE | PEACE | HONESTY

Creating an interactive experience

HOPE | PEACE | HONESTY is a conceptual exploration of death and dying in America, with a focus on the final months of life within the healthcare system. The project features an interactive lenticular animation gallery installation alongside a companion book that weaves together personal narratives from families of the deceased with relevant industry statistics. Together, these elements offer a reflective and data-informed perspective on end-of-life experiences.

Early Exploration

Proof of Concept

The focus of my exploration was to determine how to achieve this motion effect and to evaluate the potential quality and visual impact it could deliver.

Legibility

Another key aspect of this research focused on visual clarity. Traditionally, lenticular animation utilizes black vertical lines, but I aimed to explore the feasibility of using white lines instead. This initial digital study served as a proof of concept to assess the viability of the approach.

Rough Build

After confirming the viability of using vertical white lines, I proceeded with the construction phase. This video documents one of my experiments focused on determining the optimal placement and scale of the fractured typographic elements.

Final Gallery Install

The final build evokes the illusion of motion within a static form, echoing the lenticular effect. Your perspective determines what you see and how you interpret the subject matter of Death and Dying in America.

BOOK: HOPE | PEACE | HONESTY

The experience of death and dying is deeply personal, influenced by culture, faith, and family traditions. This book examines the American hospice and end-of-life care model, originally approached as a critique of the healthcare system. However, the project evolved into a personal reflection on my own encounters with loss. Through this work, I aim to invite readers to consider their own perspectives and join a broader conversation about how we care for individuals—and their families.
